There’s always those days where you’re not always feeling your best. I know I have them, and I’m pretty sure we all do. Whether it’s that time of the month, or you’ve just had a late start to the morning, your appearance can have a massive effect on how you’re feeling. Saying that, there are several things that you can do as little pick-me-ups to feel a little bit better when everything seems to be going wrong. Here are some of the things I like to do on those not-so-great days:
For me, it’s always a pair of heels. Wearing a pair of gorgeous shoes can really pick up your mood. The height which heels give make them my perfect confidence boosting choice – a good pair of wedges in the summer or some sparkly stilettos in the winter, I just love how tall and slimming they are! You can never go wrong with a good pair of black heels – mine are a faux suede pair from Kurt Geiger. I can’t walk in heels too high so these are just perfect for that little bit of height and a quick confidence boost.
I always find that a little splash of my favourite perfume is really uplifting, whether I’m having a bad day or a good one. I’m loving Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf for the summertime, but Alien by Thierry Mugler has been a firm favourite for a few years now. A quick spritz and I instantly feel refreshed and ready to tackle the tasks of the day.
There’s a reason the quote “Pour yourself a drink, put on some lipstick and pull yourself together” is such a famous one. Elizabeth Taylor always seemed to ooze confidence and she was never too far away from her favourite lipstick either! Confidence doesn’t always mean a bold red – a pretty pink or even a little lipgloss can do the trick just as well in giving you that quick-fix boost.
There’s something oh-so-chic about a nice large pair of sunglasses. Paired with the lipstick, it looks so put together and effortlessly chic that your confidence will skyrocket. This trick works so well that it’s Victoria Beckham’s signature look – I have a feeling that her gorgeous collection of sunglasses play a big part in how well she portrays herself as such a strong and confident woman!
A manicure always seems to better my mood – and I don’t mean forking out and going to a salon (unless you want to, of course). Spending fifteen minutes filing your nails and painting them a pretty colour does just the trick. Picking a bright red or a gorgeous nude are instantly chic options, but a shade of your favourite colour will be just as uplifting too. Same goes for your toes – taking out a little time to pamper them makes you feel a whole lot more put together than you might be feeling!
