It can be so easy to get caught up in our everyday lives that we forget to sometimes sit back and take a break. I know I’m guilty of it – I’m always stressing about the next thing and it’s really important for me to take some time out and re-energize. I’ve been thinking a lot about how to bring this aspect into my life throughout Autumn and I thought I’d share the different ideas that I’ve come up with to treat myself this season. I’d love to know what you have planned as well – or if you decide to do any of what’s on my treat list too!
I find myself always saying this but I really don’t read enough. For leisure I mean – I read a lot for my English degree but it’s been a long time since I picked up a book that I chose to read. My favourite books are always light reads and lifestyle books – I always like to feel inspired and I feel that I get most inspiration from that genre.
This is an obvious one for a beauty obsessed blogger but I love me a good pamper session. A bath with some luxury bodycare and a mani/pedi session at home is my ultimate evening treat. It doesn’t have to take long, and it certainly isn’t expensive (win, win), but it makes such a huge difference in how the rest of the week goes.
With it being bake-off season, I’ve been feeling all inspired in the kitchen. I love making really quick and simple treats (like these chocolate chip cookies) – again, it doesn’t take long but it fills the flat with the delicious smell of baking and you get to enjoy what you make. It can be really therapeutic (up until you have to wash the dishes, that is!)
When in doubt, there’s Netflix. Or any TV show for that matter. A stressful day is always better when you’re looking forward to something at the end of it so I always like to have a couple of TV shows on the go that I’m really enjoying. Right now it’s Once Upon A Time and Brooklyn Nine Nine. If you haven’t seen either but like a feel-good show, then they’re definitely worth a try.
The Little Things
It’s always important to remember the little things too. Weaving in ‘mini’ treats throughout the day can make even the worst of days bearable. A Starbucks in the morning, a spritz of your favourite perfume, a telephone call to catch up with a friend, a browse through your favourite blog, a quick YouTube video, wearing a new lipstick…. there are literally so many little ‘self-treats’ that can help lift our mood when things are getting a bit too much.
