A red lip seems to be in every makeup look book there is – particularly for this season, but there are so many different types and shades of red lipstick that it can be hard to find the right one for you. Good pigmentation, comfort/ease of wear and lasting power are three of many different aspects that I look for in a great lipstick. The five I’ve featured in this post are the best of the best that I’ve found and some of my favourite reds for party season. They range from different formulas to different finishes, and different price points too – but there’s definitely something in here for everyone:
The Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Red Carpet Red had to be mentioned first! It’s a gorgeous one, perfect to wear or to gift, and the formula is wonderful too. Everything about this little beauty screams festivity, so it’s the perfect option if you’re looking for a lipstick that makes you feel that extra bit more special when you apply it too.
Mac Russian Red is such a popular one that lots of people think of when they think festive red. It’s true, Russian Red is definitely a really good option if you’re looking for intense colour payoff and long wear. You do need to moisturise your lips well beforehand because this one can be incredibly drying – but if you don’t mind that then this one is a gorgeous shade.
The Rimmel London by Kate Retro Red Lipstick is a beautiful creamy red, with a really affordable price tag. It’s perfect if you don’t often opt for bright lips and you’re looking for a good red that doesn’t break the bank. The formula on the Kate lipsticks are divine – I wrote a whole review on them earlier this year which I’ll link here.
Chanel Rouge Allure Lipstick in Pirate is my go to for a comfortable demi matte festive red lipstick. It oozes sophistication, the shade is spot on for the season. It’s definitely my favourite out of the five I’ve mentioned in this post! Again, I’ve written a whole review on it here which you can read if you want a more in depth review.
If matte lips aren’t your thing, but you’re still on the hunt for the perfect bright red, the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine Lipstick in Rebelle is perfect for you. It’s super glossy and has quite an intense pigment, but it stays shiny (almost like a balm) for that lustrous tinted scarlet lip look.
What’s your favourite festive red lipstick?
