I think it’s safe to say that most of my beauty purchases are a result of spending hours reading blog posts and lusting over the stunning photography that other bloggers have put together with their reviews (honestly, half the magic lies in the photography – if a blogger can photograph it well, the product is half sold to me!). So, when I looked through my makeup collection, it wasn’t that hard to find several products that were bought from being swayed by other bloggers. This style of post has been quite popular over the past few years so I thought I’d put together a few of the more ‘splurge’ purchases that have definitely been due to reading far too many blog posts… no regrets.
Antipodes Aura Manuka Honey Mask
As you might have guessed from the number of posts featuring this brand, Antipodes has quickly become a firm favourite of mine. Their skincare products are gorgeous and the reason I first thought to try their range was because of all the blogging hype around this mask. With my skin needing all the moisture it can get, I thought I’d take the plunge and give it a whirl… and I wasn’t disappointed. This has definitely taken one of the top spots on my skincare shelf.
Would I recommend this? 100% yes. It’s the perfect mask for dry or sensitive skin types, gorgeous and nourishing with some pretty instant results. I wrote a longer review featuring it here.
The Ordinary Skincare Alpha H Arbutin + HA
I only tried this brand out recently and it was purely because everyone on my Instagram feed had posted gorgeous pictures of the beautiful pipette bottles in all their glory. They are such cute little products and the friendly price point makes them even better. I wrote an in-depth first impressions of the products I picked up here, but this particular serum is one that I saw and knew I had to try. It is formulated to target hyper-pigmentation which is exactly what I needed, and for £8, I really couldn’t put off purchasing it and giving it a go.
Would I recommend this? I’m really enjoying this product so far but I think it’s better to try it out for a longer period of time (so I can see the full results) before I recommend it.
Zoeva Rose Golden Eye Brush Set
I’ve been a fan of the Zoeva makeup brushes ever since I started blogging – in fact, one of my first ever blog posts was a review of the rose golden brush set. I had been eyeing up the newer volumes of brush sets that had since been released and all that rose gold meant that I couldn’t resist. Lots of bloggers featured them in Valentines gift themed posts and I think that’s when I realised I had to splurge (or as I put it, invest).
Would I recommend this? Yes, yes, yes. Here’s my review explaining why.
Mac Mineralize Skin Finish in Soft & Gentle
Do you remember when this was in everyone’s beauty hauls, makeup bags, monthly favourites? I managed to avoid the hype then but when this highlight made a big come back at some point last year, I couldn’t resist. It’s a stunning icy champagne and I know it’s going to last me ages (the pan is huge). I do really enjoy it, but I must say – I always forget to use it. I find myself reaching for palettes like the Sleek Solstice Palette or the P.S… Glow Kit more often than this.
Would I recommend this? There are lots of more affordable highlighters out there, but if you really love Mac, this is a great one to have in your collection.
Hourglass Ambient Blush in Diffused Heat
Ah…the really pricey blush. This definitely wasn’t a spur of the moment purchase, I put a lot of thought into paying as much as I did. The shades are gorgeous too and I wanted the perfect one. The real reason I ended up buying this was because of the hype around the Hourglass Edit palette in 2015. I own that palette as well and it’s so well loved that I knew I wouldn’t regret splurging on the full size products. Hourglass is definitely a quality brand and I really believe that their blushes are some of the best out there.
Would I recommend this? Absolutely. These blushes are some of my all time favourites – not a week goes by where I don’t use an Hourglass blush at least three to four times!
Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Pillow Talk
Is there even a point to writing how much I was totally smitten with the swatches and photographs filling my Instagram and Twitter feeds back in February?! This shade is one of the most stunning lipsticks I own, and without focusing too much on the gorgeous packaging, the formula itself is smooth and beautifully matte. It’s not drying on the lips, which I love, and the pigment of the lipstick is strong and stunning.
Would I recommend this? Definitely. I love this lipstick so much that I did a giveaway featuring it as the prize. I don’t know if this is limited edition so get it whilst you can!
Mac Lipliner in Whirl
The buzz around this product was around the same time that Kylie Jenner’s makeup selfie broke the internet. It caused a huge craze for the brown toned nude lip, and I hopped right on to that bandwagon. I’m all for a strong dark nude, I think it looks so classy and chic, not to mention it suiting so many different skin tones. The formula of this lip pencil is definitely my favourite. I reach for this shade the most, even to this day – it works with lots of different lipsticks and helps keep the lip line tidy and perfect for hours.
Would I recommend this? I do think this one is worth this investment. I’ve tried lots of drugstore lipliners, and there are some really good ones out there, but none that match the Mac formula for me.
Diptyque Candle in Baies
I think 80% of beauty bloggers have owned a Diptyque candle at some point and I think that pressure got to me a little bit lat last year! It’s such a basic blogger prop but I love how minimal and clean it looks in photographs. That aside, the scent range is absolutely heavenly – of course, Baies is the one I went for (surprise, surprise), but I’ve since burnt several others from the range and I love each and every one.
Would I recommend this? Despite what you see taking over your Instagram and Bloglovin’ feeds, think long and hard about investing in an expensive candle. Yes, they are lovely, but they are pricey too, so if you’re looking to buy one, make sure you get the perfect scent! But if you are on the hunt, this brand has a brilliant selection to choose from.
