I’ve been keeping things super minimal when it comes to makeup recently, and I’ve really been enjoying the feeling of dewy skin, flushed cheeks and just a little mascara to lengthen the lashes. I think I have to blame Alix from I Covet Thee, but this new routine has totally changed my makeup game! There are a handful of new products that I find myself reaching for again and again, so I thought I’d put them all in a post and share some of my recent beauty discoveries.
It’s all about a glowy base, so the Estee Lauder Illuminating Primer was a product that instantly caught my attention. Lots of other beauty blogger rave about how lovely this primer is, and I have to say, I can totally see why. It quickly absorbs into the skin, it doesn’t leave that silicone-y residue, and it adds a dewiness to the skin that doesn’t appear glittery or shiny. In terms of comparison, I’ve been alternating between this and the Charlotte Tilbury Wonder Glow primer (another firm favourite), and they are quite similar in result. The only difference would be that the CT primer is more golden, and this one from Estee Lauder is neutral – which works really well for every skin tone.
There’s nothing better than being able to just wear tinted moisturiser and head out the door – seriously, tinted moisturiser is definitely my new favourite thing. However, I still suffer from acne scarring and redness on my cheeks so sadly, it’s not really an option for me. I have been dabbling in the tinted moisturiser market and I’ve found that the Bareminerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Moisturiser in Buttercream is the perfect balance between moisturiser and foundation. It’s not heavy at all, but it still has decent coverage for being so lightweight. A squeeze of this, plus a little concealer where the scars and redness still show through has been my favourite base combination this summer and I know I’ll be wearing it all throughout autumn too. I can’t recommend this one enough – if you hate heavy foundations and want something a little lighter and fresher, the Complexion Rescue is gorgeous!
I’m usually very loyal to my Anastasia Brow Definer, but I recently ran out and I didn’t have a replacement in my dressing table. It just so happened, that that same morning, the Benefit Cosmetics Brow Contour Pro* landed on my doorstep! This product is quite unique because it actually works as four products in one, all encased in a 90s style click-pen that makes it the perfect brow product to travel with. The product comes with a lighter brow shade, a deeper brow shade, a define shade, and a highlighter shade. They each compliment each other to create a perfectly natural looking, fuller brow. I was unsure of how contouring a brow would work, but it’s surprisingly easy! I start with the lighter shade at the front and at the arch, I use the deeper shade for the tail end – the define and highlight shades are lighter and are designed to be used to accentuate the high points of the brow. I’m really enjoying this pencil so far, and I love the whole concept of how it was designed.
I was so excited to try the new Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Filter Blushes in Seduce Blush* and Pretty Fresh* last month, and I haven’t been reaching for anything else since. If you read my post on my obsession with the Bobbi Brown Pot Rouges, you’ll know that I’m a total cream blush convert, and I love how they make my skin appear so naturally flushed. These palettes come with two pans, with a lighter blush/highlighting shade and a deep blush. You can use the Cheek Hug brush that is also available in a set with each palette, but I prefer using my fingers, because the warmth from my fingertips helps melt the blush into my skin for the most natural look. I’ve been using Pretty Fresh all August long because it’s such a pretty pop of summer pink, but I think I’ll be switching to Seduce Blush as autumn rolls around because it’s a little more muted and dusty. Each palette also comes with a large mirror in the lid which I always appreciate – perfect for travelling and touch ups on the go!
The last couple of new beauty finds that I wanted to mention were the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lipliners in Pillow Cheat* and Hot Gossip*. I’ve always been a Mac Lipliner girl, but I think I may have found my new favourites. The Pillow Talk lipstick has been one of my favourites for over a year now, and I never even thought to pair it with the matching lipliner – they work so well with each other in and make the whole lip look appear even more gorgeous than each product alone. Saying that, these lipliners are so creamy that I actually love using them as a natural light stain on my lips, and just filling in my lip shape with the pencil. Both are incredibly wearable, everyday shades and they last really long, so I’ll definitely be picking up some more shades to match some of my more intense lipsticks.
