I know lots of people who find removing makeup at the end of a long day an absolute chore, but I have to admit, I really enjoy the *one-hundred* step routine before bed. I find the process of taking off my makeup to be quite therapeutic in some ways, very calming and a great way to prep myself for a good nights sleep. I thought I’d write up a little blog post sharing some of the products I’ve been reaching for when it comes to taking off my makeup these days. Some of them are totally new to my routine, others are oldies but goodies that I can’t seem to go without…
So, starting off with something new, I’ve been testing out the Bobbi Brown Makeup Melter & Cleanser* which I use as a way to get off as much makeup as I can for my initial cleanse. It’s a pump bottle with the product coming out like a foam, it lathers up quite nicely and helps break down face makeup and lipstick. You can’t use this one on the eye area so I tend to stick with my Clinique Take the Day Off Eye Makeup Remover if I’m wearing any mascara or eyeshadow during the day. I find the cleanser to be very gentle which is brilliant for sensitive skin like mine. You will certainly need to double cleanse with this one though, because although it does a great job at breaking the makeup down, you need something with a little more oomph to remove more stubborn residue. I think this product would work best with combination to oilier skin types – my dry skin definitely needs a lot of hydration afterwards which I’ll go into a little later!
For my second cleanse, I’ve been a long term fan of the Bobbi Brown Soothing Cleansing Oil*. It’s another incredibly gentle product which my dry skin adores, and it does a fantastic job at removing any leftover makeup without stripping my skin of it’s natural oils. A little goes a long way, with two pumps being enough for my nighttime cleanse… and if there’s one oil-based cleanser I’d recommend, it has to be this one.
I’ve mentioned my love for the Caudalie Vinoperfect Essence* before, and although it’s a bit of a princess product, I really love the extra boost of hydration after my cleansing routine. I use my hands for this product, pouring a few drops into my left palm and using the warmth of my fingertips to press the water into my skin. It smells gorgeous and is such a treat to apply each night.
For serums, I have a few favourites, but recently it’s been the Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Serum* that really helps my skin remain plump and hydrated overnight. I wake up with a fresh face every time I use this – it’s just such a wonder product. Again, a little bit goes quite far with this one… I usually only need a couple of pumps to cover my whole face. The effects are immediate too – I can really feel the product sinking in as soon as I put it on, which I love because it means no sticky residue on your pillow.
My final step is moisturiser, and these days, it’s my trusty Bobbi Brown Hydrating Face Cream*. This one is just one of those magical moisturisers that seems to do-it-all for me. I can always rely on it when I need that light, quick-but-still-rich hydration at any point in the day. I’m actually nearly out of this jar, and I get through them so quickly! I’d also recommend the Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base* too if you’re looking for something a little thicker – it doubles up as a brilliant primer in the mornings before makeup as well!
